The Knowledge Creation Lab at Stanford University is a team of faculty, postdocs, and students who study the dynamics of knowledge creation. Our work ranges social network analysis of faculty collaborations and citations, natural language processing of abstracts in grants, publications, and dissertations. Our joint project focuses on multiple universities, and seeks to understand how interdisciplinarity influences the process of knowledge creation.

A distinguishing feature of the lab is the effective combination of in-depth empirical studies with sophisticated techniques of natural language processing and social network analysis. Our research has resulted in state-of-the-art techniques for network and topic modeling and their visualization, as well as a concern for theory and interpretation of the dynamic form and content of academic communities.

The Knowledge Creation Lab is affiliated with the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences.
